Highlights from the January 17 Meeting
We have a new Tail Twister and Broom Project Chairman. Respectively they are George R. and Keith O. Thank you both for stepping up to the plate.
It doesn’t seem possible, but the Concession Stand will soon be open for business for events at the Fairgrounds. We know everyone is EAGER to serve at that facility again.
The committee for the selection of officers for 2012-2013 year will soon be meeting, and the Lion of the Year for 2012 will be chosen by another committee in the upcoming months. Suggestions are welcome.
Dr. Keith O. will fit a woman who lost an eye in automobile accident several years ago with lens for one eye and a cover for the other. It is noted here that the Sparta Lions Club has helped many individuals in Alleghany County receive eye exams and eyeglasses, free of charge.
Hey folks, did you see info about the VIP Thanksgiving lunch last year in the last issue of the Lions magazine?
The group voted to give $200 to the American Red Cross. The Club supports many good causes in Alleghany and for the district, state, nation and internationally.
After the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer, Andrea Caudill and Donna Billings from Alleghany Memorial Hospital presented the program. Ms. Caudill talked about colonoscopies and the surgeon’s experience in performing this procedure. Ms. Brooks talked about Reclast and its use only once a year. When asked, the ladies stated that funding for the operation of the Hospital came from the Hospital Foundation, proceeds from the Thrift Shop at Roaring Gap and, of course, charges for patient use.
The Newspaper Committee is working on preparing for publication in May and securing ads. Letters that include information about the work of the Sparta Lions Club, costs and sizes of ads and an order form will be mailed in February. Any business a Lion thinks should be contacted about placing an ad should contact President Hedrick.
A WORK DAY at the Club was set for Saturday, MARCH 17 with a rain/snow date of MARCH 24. Women will work in the kitchen and men outside on guttering, painting, installing hand rail and other needs.
Our VIPs will be invited to have dinner and be a part of the meeting on June 5. You won’t want to miss that event. And, June 19 the Club will have a picnic upstairs and Lions can enjoy some good food, fun and fellowship.
You Lions not at our meetings are always missed! Hope to see you at the next meeting on February 7!!
